In September of 2021, I went to a first Friday art event where I was able to view so many beautiful works of art and meet so many different artists. I met a man who was an abstract artist and he had showed me one of his most popular pieces; It was a grid that was filled with multiple abstract images and I was inspired to try it out in my own style! Thus, “Melanintopia” was created; I used the faces of of black celebrities and my supporters as references. I want my black viewers to look at this piece and realize that they are no different than any other person and that they are not alone.
